Meet the Experienced Team at Safeway Driving School: Proven Excellence Since 1991

We are the oldest and largest driving school serving Southern Nevada. The school was founded in 1991 and trained thousands of people to obtain their driver's license and become safe defensive drivers. We have been here long enough to brag about generations of family members who have trained and returned to Safeway Driving School.

All our instructors are experienced and highly trained in the latest methods of teaching. They teach defensive driving techniques so that students make every effort to avoid a collision. We have male and female instructors, and some are bilingual in Spanish. The instructors are professional and licensed by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. They also receive continuing education throughout the year.


The cars are the latest model mid-size vehicles with automatic transmission, which makes it easier for first-time learners. The cars are white in color, so they are more visible to others on the road. They are equipped with dual-controlled brakes, and our insurance covers the driver and student as required by Nevada law. The cars are inspected frequently to ensure they are safely maintained.


The school has an online system through which the customer can register for the requested services. Appointments to set up scheduling for behind-the-wheel training can be done only by calling the office. This task can be accomplished 7 days a week to start a schedule. Once the appointments are made, the system sends out a confirmation email with a date, time, and even a reminder the day before the appointment. We have more cars and instructors so that we are more likely to set up appointments to fit our clients' busy schedules.


Payment for services can be made on-line with a credit card. Your credit card information is secured through the Payment Card Industry Compliance Certification program (PCI).

Clemos S. Kelly

President


Experience: Mr. Kelly became the owner of Safeway Driving School in January 2000. He is a retired law enforcement officer of California and classroom instructor in Nevada.


He insists on monthly training for the instructors to ensure their teaching skills are kept current.


Philosophy: "The power in serving others is to get back the feeling of satisfaction."

Kathy Kelly

Customer Support


Experience:

Over 20 years of experience managing driving instructors and driver education schedules, along with 13 years of teaching driver education for teens and adults. Also provides instruction through the Black Mountain Recreation Center.


Philosophy:

Enjoys helping students understand the theory behind safe driving and overcome challenges with the DMV written test. Finds fulfillment in supporting students as they build confidence and achieve their goal of earning a driver’s license.

Sam Lloyd

Driving Instructor


Experience:

A retired U.S. Air Force veteran with a safe driving record since 1972, certified as a Behind-the-Wheel Driver Education and Traffic Safety instructor at Safeway Driving School since 2003. Also helps train and mentor newly hired instructors.


Philosophy:

Believes that quality driver education and awareness of traffic safety laws, including drug-related regulations, are essential for developing responsible and defensive driving habits.

  • Can I ride along while my child receives driving lessons?

    Yes, the safety of our students is our absolute highest priority.   • Can the instructor teach my child in my family car?

    No. The instructors are not covered under Worker's Compensation insurance and there are no secondary brakes and mirrors.

  • How will I know how my child is performing with the driving lessons?

    The instructor will meet with a parent or guardian after each lesson if possible or will complete a progress report for the student.

  • Can the student wear flip-flops while taking driving lessons?

    We highly recommend footwear with closed heels and toes to prevent any injuries or problems with the footwear becoming tangled with the accelerator or brake pedal.
